What's in a name?

Let me explain.

First of all, thanks to my niece Theresa who many years ago decided to christen her uncles with an appellation that described them. Her 'Crafty Uncle,' me, became 'Crunkle.'

So - I was a craft guy all that time back. And craft means working with your hands.

So Crunkle's Handamade ... and it is a Blog, but you knew that.

To understand is to forgive all; thank you.

What do I do?

I'm an enameller now. Glass on copper, fired in a kiln.

When Theresa first christened me 'Crunkle' I probably wasn't enamelling. I was into lapidary: then I found enamelling but I had young children around so I did a bit of copper work, some plastic resin enamels, carved a bit of ivory or even wood.

The kids grew; they'll do that if you leave them be. At last I could work with a red hot kiln and powdered glass without feeling too guilty.

Now I'm signed up to folksy - thatenamelguy.folksy.com will find my shop.

And if you get out and about in North Yorkshire or West Yorkshire you might catch me at a craft fair at Goathland Village Hall or Temple Newsam, Leeds.

Here is a sample of my work.

I'll be posting more this week, next week, later ....

Be sure to come back. If nothing else you will learn about the techniques I use in a craft that has played an important part in over 2000 years of civilisation. And tell your friends.
